Hydrodynamics and mechanics of colloidal suspensions

Colloidal suspensions are made of micron size particles dispersed in a continuous fluid phase. Such small particles perform Brownian motion and can be seen as classical « Big Atoms ». Colloidal suspensions are therefore model systems for studying collective dynamics in a simple molecular system, such as the physics of the glass transition, the flow properties close to yielding, etc… We are specifically interested in the flowing properties of dense colloidal suspensions, and how these properties depend on the size, the density and the surface properties of the particles.
